Q: When will the results of the Knowledge Discovery Challenge be communicated?
A: The winning and runner-up teams were invited to a conference call in mid November during which they were notified that they had won the challenge. General communication messages are currently being prepared for dissemination to the Jamat as well as to institutions that may wish to take advantage of the solutions that were submitted as part of the challenge. We expect these communication messages to be disseminated before the end of the year.
Q: Who participated in the challenge and how many submissions were entered?
A: Over 500 individuals from across Canada participated in the challenge and over 100 submissions were evaluated.
Q: Who evaluated the submissions?
A: An international panel of 29 judges with experience in a variety of disciplines related to economic and social development evaluated applications for technical correctness, implementation feasibility, sustainability, overall quality, and relevance to the work of the AKDN. Judges included university professors, senior individuals working in AKDN institutions, past World Bank employees, and others.
Q: Why has it taken so long for the results of the challenge to be communicated?
A: Various judges involved in evaluating challenge submissions, as well as competition administrators, were also involved in meetings related to Golden Jubilee visits around the world, leading to unforeseen delay. Please accept our sincere apologies for these delays.
Q: Can our team receive feedback on our submission?
A: Judges have provided high-level feedback on all applications reviewed. To receive feedback on your application, please contact
Q: My team did not win the challenge. What happens next?
A: The judging panel's task of choosing winners was made very difficult by the outstanding quality of submissions. While it was not possible to award prizes to all outstanding submissions entered into the challenge, we are pleased to advise you that we are seeking to share as many submitted ideas as possible with Jamati and AKDN institutions. The highest scoring solutions will be included in a booklet which will be made available on this website and to Jamati and AKDN institutions that may wish to take advantage of the solutions offered.
